Expand your Colour Expression – Exploring Pastel Painting

Thursday Evenings – 6 sessions, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Location: Chester Art Centre
This class celebrates the pastel medium in its application and approaches. Discover an array of techniques that can be achieved with this exciting medium. Exploring colour and light, designing strong compositions, improving your observation skills, creating the illusion of depth, and mastering lost and found edges will be the focus. Under-painting with acrylic and/or watercolour is explored. Leave your comfort zone to simplify your approach to achieve exciting colourful impressionistic paintings. Demonstrations are designed to give students the tools to develop an understanding of this medium.

Pure Pigment at your Fingertips: Painting with Pastel

Location: Lunenburg School of the Arts
This class celebrates the pastel medium in its application and approaches. Traditional techniques will be the foundation of instruction, colour and light the focus. Discover how to solve problems of composition and colour, create the illusion of depth, and master lost and found edges. Under-painting with acrylic and/or watercolour is explored.
Artist quality pastels produce intense colour with an immediacy that most other mediums can’t match. Demonstrations are designed to give students the tools to develop an understanding of this medium.

Pushing Colour and Light – Painting with Acrylic

Tuesday Evenings – 5 sessions, 6:30pm – 9:00pm
Location: Lunenburg School of the Arts
Learn to paint expressive, impressionistic acrylic paintings that capture the colour, light and essence of a scene. Stretch your creativity, get out of your comfort zone to push past what you see to what you’d like to express.
Make value and negative pattern work for you to produce paintings that have strength and depth. Show the Artist’s hand with bold brush strokes, and “unexpected” colour.
Canvas prep, composition, and underpainting approaches shared. Colour mixing with a touch of theory to kiss local colour bye bye, it’s time to turn up the chroma!
