Week 1 - Point Me in the Right Direction...

A large part of being a full-time artist doesn't involve painting at all...

Starting a new year, making plans. Then life happens. It's inevitable, the best laid plans and all... one way to minimize fallout from the unexpected is to make a Yearly Review/Plan. A roadmap of sorts, where you would like to go, and where you would like to be at the end of the year. I like to break it down into months, projects, shows. Pin it up where I'll see it often, it helps keep me on track. This is one of the first things I like to do each year.

There's also a lot of "other" that needs looking after too. Websites, social media, it takes a big chunk of my time. I just set up Linktree on my Instagram account this week. It's great! A free app that provides direct links from your Instagram bio. Perfect for linking others to my blog, website, and artwork.

Studio clean up, gesso new panels and canvases. I had a painting that's been hanging about for a while now. I lost the flow on this one. Sometimes you just have to let them go...

Goodbye to the old...

I have another Square Foot Show coming up in February, so I managed to finish the first of 3-5 that will be submitted to this online show. "Off the Beaten Path I", acrylic on canvas 12'x12".

I've also started on a new 24"x24" acrylic on cradled board. It's not finished yet, but here's a detail. It's veering into random abstract, coastal mark making yumminess. Hopefully I will be able to share next week. It's at the critical make or break point.

Today, I spent some time looking for affordable picture frames for smaller paintings. Everything has gone up in price over the past year, and this includes picture frames. Yikes! I'm still on the search, I'll let you know next week if I'm successful in my quest.

Onward we paint...

  • Beautiful work… ❤️ I thought about linking up link tree too. Got to finish my website. This article gets me realizing that I need to be more diligent about my plans and goals. I get so frustrated lately because every time I set a plan of where my art is going…any career plan I want to do it seems, life’s bumps are there forcing me to hit pause. But I’m getting more stubborn. Instead of quitting, I’m just going to keep plowing through and creating art. Thanks for the article. It helped me realize this.
